We talk about it a lot these days, but what do we really know about it? How is it different than sex? How is it different than orientation? And most important of all – how do the interactions of sex, gender, and orientation affect our day to day lives? How do they shape our interactions with each other?

I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t been the most fair when it comes to dealing with, respecting, and understanding my differently gendered friends. Like most cis people, I feel frustrated when they try to explain it all to me. Why should I pay attention to someone else’s identity crisis? Why should I have to change the way I live my life, just so you can live yours more comfortably?
